Ronaldo, Messi and the Others: The Stories of Faith That Are Moving the World
Something is happening at the 2026 World Cup that goes far beyond sport — and the TV cameras don’t always catch it. Why are so many players praying on the field? From Cristiano Ronaldo to Lionel Messi, to Curaçao’s historic national team and Croatia’s young stars, faith in God is becoming the real protagonist of this tournament.
In this video we look at the gestures of devotion, the prayers before and after matches, and the public declarations of faith that are stunning football fans around the world. Discover the prayer circle led by Mark McKenzie for the United States, the powerful Catholic testimony of Igor Matanović and Kristijan Jakić in front of reporters, goalkeeper Matt Freese’s daily habit with the “Bible in a Year” podcast, and Curaçao’s moving night of worship. We’ll also see the incredible prayer circle between Germany and Curaçao with Felix Nmecha, Cristiano Ronaldo’s historic World Cup record against Uzbekistan, and the solemn vow kept by Argentina, carrying the World Cup trophy to the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján.
Why do athletes who already have everything choose to kneel and publicly give the glory to God? Leave your prayer in the comments to join our faith community.
