12000 People Saw the Miracle of the Sun in the United States

On August 15, 1988 — the Feast of the Assumption — around twelve thousand people gathered around a small parish in Lubbock, Texas, the church of Saint John Neumann, after three of the faithful had announced weeks in advance that on that day the Virgin Mary would leave signs. During the outdoor Mass, the celebration was interrupted three times: hundreds of people said they saw Jesus and Mary among the clouds, the sun seemed to pulse and move as at Fatima, and many silver rosaries were said to turn to gold. The event ended up on the front pages of America’s biggest newspapers.

In this video we tell this extraordinary story with faith and with honesty: what really happened that day, who the three visionaries were, and how the Church responded. An invitation to look beyond the visible sign, toward the true miracle: the conversion of the heart.

The event of August 15, 1988 in Lubbock was documented in real time by the major U.S. news outlets. The Catholic Church did not officially recognize the phenomena as supernatural; the diocesan commission found the visionaries sincere and the messages in harmony with doctrine, without, however, declaring their origin divine.

Note: the testimonies about the phenomena (figures among the clouds, movements of the sun, rosaries changing color) are the accounts of those present; their interpretation remains a matter of prudence, for each person and for the Church.
