Leo XIII’s Vision and the Line Removed from the Saint Michael Prayer
In 1890, Pope Leo XIII had a prayer against Satan published in the official acts of the Holy See, and it contained a startling line: in the very place where the Chair of Peter stands, the enemies of the Church “have placed the throne of their abominable impiety.” That line is no longer in the Saint Michael prayer the Church uses today.
In this video we tell the true story of Leo XIII’s vision. You’ll hear the account of Father Domenico Pechenino, who saw the Pope stare at something above the altar during Mass, and the testimony of Cardinal Nasalli Rocca about the “infernal spirits gathering over the Eternal City.” We follow the birth of the Saint Michael prayer, said on bended knee at the end of every Mass for nearly eighty years. Then we turn to the original text of the 1890 exorcism, where that line can still be found, and to why you won’t find it anymore.
Finally, we look at the link to Pope Leo XIV, who chose the name of Leo XIII and went into the hospital on October 13.
At the end, we pray the Saint Michael prayer together for the Pope, for the Church and for our families. If you pray it with us, write “Amen” in the comments and entrust the name of someone you love to Saint Michael.
🙏 Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
