The 2,100-Year-Old Scroll That Predicted Jesus… Before He Was Born

In the desert of Qumran, near the Dead Sea, a fragment was found that was written more than one hundred years before the birth of Jesus. Its code name is 4Q521, the Messianic Apocalypse. And it contains the exact checklist of the signs of the Messiah that Jesus would later repeat in the Gospels… including one that, for ancient Judaism, only God could perform: raising the dead.

In this video we analyze one of the most astonishing Dead Sea Scrolls ever discovered. When John the Baptist, from prison, sends to ask Jesus “Are you the one who is to come?”, Jesus answers by listing the signs of the Messiah (Luke 7:22). For centuries skeptics have argued that this list — and in particular the raising of the dead — was a late addition, invented by the first Christians. But scroll 4Q521, copied around 100 BC, contains the same rare combination: healing the wounded, raising the dead, proclaiming good news to the poor. Proof that this messianic expectation existed in Israel long before the Church was born.

We discover what is really written on the leather of Qumran, why Jesus answered “in code,” and what all of this means for the historical credibility of the Gospels.
