The Atheist Journalist’s Words at Fatima | The Document No One Was Supposed to Read

On October 13, 1917, in Fatima, Portugal, thousands of people gathered in the rain to witness what would go down in history as the Miracle of the Sun.

But one of the most surprising witnesses was not a priest. He was not a devout pilgrim. He was not a man sent by the Church.

His name was Avelino de Almeida, a journalist for the Portuguese newspaper O Século, a publication connected to the republican and anti-clerical world. He had gone to Fatima as a skeptical observer, during a very difficult historical period for the Catholic Church in Portugal.

And yet, just a few days later, that very newspaper published an account that would make the world talk: before an immense crowd, the sun seemed to tremble, move, and “dance” in the sky.

In this video, we reconstruct the historical account of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, the role of Avelino de Almeida, the article published in O Século on October 15, 1917, the crowd gathered at the Cova da Iria, the rain, the mud, and the testimonies.

Fatima is not only a story from the past. It is a call to faith, prayer, conversion, and a return to God.
