The Child Jesus Appeared in the Host: The Miracle Pope Leo XIV Wants the World to Know
On June 2, 1649, in the Peruvian village of Eten, a Franciscan friar raised the consecrated Host, and everyone in the church recognized in it the face of the Child Jesus. Seven weeks later the Child appeared again before four friars, dressed like the native people of that land. Almost four centuries later, the bishop who fought harder than anyone for that Eucharistic miracle to be recognized has become Pope: his name is Leo XIV, and in November he returns to Chiclayo, his own diocese, just a few miles from that church.
In this video we retrace the story of the Eucharistic miracle of Eten through the documents of the time: the sworn statements taken by the ecclesiastical judge in 1649, the names and ages of the witnesses, the Franciscan chronicle of Diego de Córdova Salinas, and the account of the Peruvian writer Ricardo Palma. Then we tell how Bishop Robert Prevost, as Bishop of Chiclayo, carried the devotion to the Divino Niño del Milagro all the way to Rome: the dossier he handed to Pope Francis in 2019, the land for the Eucharistic Shrine of Peru, and Eten’s declaration as a “Eucharistic City” of national interest.
A friar, a humble people, and a sign that reminds all of us of what the Church teaches: in every consecrated Host, Jesus is truly present.
🙏 If you wish, write in the comments: “Jesus, I adore you in the Blessed Sacrament,” and together let us entrust Pope Leo to the Divine Child of Eten.
