The Desperate Order Pope John Paul II Gave in the Hospital: ‘Don’t Take It Off!'”
On May 13, 1981, Pope John Paul II was shot at point-blank range in St. Peter’s Square and rushed, near death, to the Gemelli Polyclinic. But as the surgeons prepared him for emergency surgery, the dying Pope gave an order no one expected — an order that traces straight back to a promise made at Fatima, and to a small piece of brown wool he had worn since he was ten years old. This is the true story of the scapular, the bullet, and the hand that guided it.
